Ganesh Chaturthi

Ganesh Chaturthi festival commemorating the birth of Sri Ganesha which is marked with the installation of His clay idol. Observances include chanting of Vedic hymns and Hindu texts and prayers and the vrata (fasting). Offerings and prasada from the daily prayers, that are distributed to the community, include sweets such as modak as it is believed to be a favourite of Ganesha.

Akshay Tritiya

Akshaya Tritiya is considered auspicious in many regions of India and Nepal for new ventures, marriages, expensive investments such as gold or other real estate, and all new beginnings. It is also a day of remembrance for deceased relatives. This day is also significant for women who pray for the well-being of their husbands if they are married, or for their future husbands if they are not married.

Makar Shankranti - Pongal

Makar Sankranti is a Hindu observance and festival. Usually falling on the date of January 15 annually. This occasion marks the transition of the Sun from the zodiac of Sagittarius (dhanu) to Capricorn (makara). Since the Sun is regarded to have moved from the southern hemisphere to the northern hemisphere on this day in the Hindu calendar, the festival is dedicated to the solar deity, Surya, and is observed to mark a new beginning.
