Dhanteras

Date and time
Pooja thali

According to ancient Hindu myth, gods and demons teamed up to churn the ocean in hopes of obtaining amrita, the drink of immortality. While the ocean was churned, fourteen precious ratnas, i.e. precious gems, emerged from the water.

One of the ratnas was Goddess Lakshmi herself. Another was God Dhanvantari, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu, held the potion of immortality, amrita, in his hand.

We remember this on Dhanteras Day. At the pooja, the ceremony offered, we thank for the blessings of the past year and ask for further blessings for our path, for the coming year.

You are welcome!
